There are many ways to get your brand out there. Some of them are expensive and, when not handled properly, can lead to a serious drain on your company accounts. So when looking to expand your marketing efforts, shouldn’t you always be looking for marketing avenues that only cost time and not money? One of the best ways to market your law firm or small business without needing to spend a dime is by creating a YouTube channel.

Consider this, have you been getting a lot of the same questions from new clients and new consultations? Are most people you talk to not reading your FAQs before they come in and ask questions? Do you need to get your name out there? A YouTube channel with consistent video uploads can relieve a bit of these issues, and for free.

When something can only help you, and you can use it for free, you owe it to your law firm or your business to take the opportunity into consideration.

YouTube Videos Are Perfect for Making You Appear Human

Law firms, small businesses, and big businesses alike have this problem where they come off as inhuman. This perception can then get in the way of new clients or customers approaching them. A singular video, let alone many, can help make you appear human amongst your impersonal competitors.

While yes, blog posts and writing can get this across at times, this doesn’t always work. Even when reading the best writers with distinctive voices, people will read a text in their own voice. They don’t always catch on to who you are through what written words you put on your website.

On the other hand, it’s difficult for the average person to be someone else on camera. That’s why acting is its own profession and not a general skill. If you post a video of yourself honestly answering a question, your viewer more than likely will feel a lot more comfortable about meeting you for a consultation. They already have an idea of what it’s like to talk to you.

All businesses struggle with appearing human, but law firms more than most. Law firms and lawyers have a stigma for reasons that aren’t entirely fair, and a YouTube channel populated with videos of you and other attorneys answering questions honestly will show that you don’t fit any stigmas.

When you walk into the courtroom with your client, and they trust you implicitly, you’re starting off with an advantage. This is a way to get that advantage in some of your cases.

Viewers Watch YouTube Videos as Often as They Read

You’re not going to become an overnight sensation. You can make YouTube videos for years and never get millions of views, but you can have dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of views in your first year. You just have to be consistent, and when you get a viewer who enjoys your video, they’ll like it, they’ll rewatch it, and they’ll look for an excuse to become your customer or will think of you first when they can be your client.

The average American spent 20 minutes reading daily in 2020. At the same time, the average American spends 19 minutes a day watching YouTube videos. They’re incredibly close, with reading fluctuating and watching YouTube only growing. If you’re not writing blog posts and filling your website with content, you should be. Content marketing is one of the most effective forms of marketing there is, and sometimes it doesn’t have to cost you a dime. Having a YouTube channel can do the same, and is growing in its effectiveness, so do them both. Capitalize on what most people are doing, be everywhere.

Quality YouTube Videos Are Not Impossible to Make

Yes, as someone who has done it and employs people who do it, editing a video can be tedious to make. It is far from impossible, and it is a skill that anyone can learn and develop over time. Start with editing software that’s easy, simple, and free.

Movie-maker, while dated, is perfect for teaching the basics and you can create high-resolution videos on it. If you already have Adobe Creative Cloud, there are several editing programs you likely already have access to. If you start small, you can edit a video to completion in a few hours and upload it to YouTube the day of. Making YouTube videos is easier than it sounds.

YouTube Channels Are Free to Make and Keep

I know this has been said, but it’s free. It doesn’t cost anything to make a YouTube channel, there’s no subscription to keep it going, and it doesn’t have to cost anything to make a video. If your firm or business finds that there isn’t enough time or manpower to regularly upload to your channel, that’s fine. There’s no financial loss in something that didn’t have a financial cost in the first place.

This also means that if you can’t work on it now, but think you will be able to in the future, you can always go back to it. You may lose momentum, but what you have gained in terms of recognition, popularity, and reusable marketing content will never go away.
