We’re in love with these devices and it shows. According to research from the Pew Research Internet Project, as of May 2013, 63 percent of cell phone users use their phones to go online and 34 percent have said they go online mostly on their phones instead of a computer. Think about it…if you need to find the menu to your favorite Chinese restaurant, it’s much easier to bring up the website on your phone then taking out the computer, wait for it to boot up, open a browser and find the website. And chances are, that restaurant’s mobile website will have a method where you can order right on your phone too.
We can’t deny it, the wave of the future has just gone mobile. So ask yourself this question: How’s your mobile website looking these days?
Many companies neglect the mobile website, thinking that their websites will automatically look good on the small screen as it does on a computer screen. But this is simply not the case. Although many website templates these days are responsive, this doesn’t mean the responsive website will look or act the way you want it to. In fact, you may consider creating two separate websites — one for the desktop and one for the mobile. Your web designer might hate you for it but think of the benefits of having a mobile website that differs from your main website. You can also add different elements that a desktop design doesn’t have, such as a feature that allows your customers to call you with just the click of a button.
Marketing is becoming more personal day by day, thanks to social media. And if you think about it, your mobile website can be another way your business to connect with your customers directly. Instead of an email newsletter that many ignore, they can sign up for text alerts. Create an app that gives mobile users exclusive deals on your products. Be creative! There’s another digital world waiting for you on a mobile device.
So pay attention to your cell phone. After all, everyone else is.
