Every Day I’m Blogging (And So Should You): Adding Blogs to Your Content Marketing Strategy

Content Writing ENX2 Marketing

When I tell people I work in content marketing, I’m often met with a dazed-and-confused stare. “What does that mean?”

I’ll give some general background on content writing for clients, how we work with SEO services and digital marketing efforts. Still, I’m met with looks of utter confusion.

“No, really. What do you do?”

Sigh. “I’m a writer. I write blogs for clients.”

Suddenly the light goes off. “Oh! Like a fashion blog or food review.”

Sure, something like that.

While being a food blogger or influencer isn’t what I do here at ENX2 Marketing, I do write content for our clients ranging from blog posts and web pages to social media posts.

But what’s the difference between content marketing and blogging? Often, people unfamiliar with the digital marketing world will use content marketing and blogging interchangeably. But really, blogging is moreso part of your multi-channel marketing strategy rather than the only strategy your business should employ.

So how do we combine the two?

What a blog wants. What a blog needs.

Blogging isn’t just that thing for social media influencers to post brand deals and stories. Short for “weblog,” it pertains to specific, informational content published on a website.

Today, we have access to so many types of blogs, such as personal, corporate, political, and legal blogs, which is a lot of what I do here.

For example, say I have a client who sells blue light glasses for dogs. (Why your dog may need such a thing? Easy! To stream Animal Planet, of course!) That client may have a webpage relating to all of the styles of doggy glasses they sell. But that’s really all the page conveys. What if that client has a secret specialty in dog optometry?

That’s where a blog comes in. The client can then create a blog post about the benefits of the product and how it relates to new studies in blue light technology. Before our eyes, numbers are booming, sales are soaring and all the doggos have perfect vision.

The point is the blog needs purpose. Once it becomes a place of information, it can help drive traffic to your website and in turn, become part of your content marketing strategy

Content marketing strategy?

Yes, your content marketing strategy. The Content Marketing Institute defines content marketing as “a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.”

Profitable customer action, you say? Indeed. By keeping content fresh and focused, you are better able to maintain and grow followers and consumers for your product or service.

But what else do you need to keep in mind for your marketing strategy?
